Honouring the characteristics of Scrolling Tulip, with its meandering ogee pattern formed of tulip heads and acanthus leaves, Etched Scrolling Tulip draws out the delicate pencil lines found at the edges of the original artwork. These unfinished elements add a sense of depth and movement, which resonated with the designers. A border has been added, reflecting the design’s rug origins. Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. (1861–1875) was a furnishings and decorative arts manufacturer and retailer founded by the artist and designer William Morris with friends from the Pre-Raphaelites. With its successor Morris & Co. (1875–1940) the firm's medieval-inspired aesthetic and respect for hand-craftsmanship and traditional textile arts had a profound influence on the decoration of churches and houses into the early 20th century.
Although its most influential period was during the flourishing of the Arts and Crafts Movement in the 1880s and 1890s, Morris & Co. remained in operation in a limited fashion from World War I until its closure in 1940. The firm's designs are still sold today under licences given to Sanderson & Sons.

These are often referred to as Metric single rolls or bolts and are double the length of a standard American single roll. However, some wallpapers may vary, with wider widths or shorter lengths. Wallpaper is printed on rollers, which creates a repeating pattern. On plain or striped wallpapers, the repeat may not matter, but for patterned designs, it’s important to understand the repeat type.

Wallpapers are printed in batches, and it’s essential to have rolls from the same batch to ensure an exact colour match. The batch number is typically printed near the pattern number on the wallpaper label. This applies to all wallpapers, including plain white ones, as shades can vary slightly between batches.
Modern wallpaper manufacturing has introduced new technologies, such as the use of polyester fibres in paper pulp. This means these wallpapers don’t expand when wet and don’t need to soak before hanging. The adhesive can be applied directly to the wall, making the process quicker and easier—ideal for beginners.
While you can still apply paste to the wallpaper in the traditional way, soaking is not necessary. Another advantage is that 'paste the wall' wallpapers are easier to remove when it’s time for a change.
We always recommend using lining paper to create a smooth base for wallpaper and to hide minor wall imperfections. This is especially useful for beginners.
Cross Lining: Hang the lining paper horizontally to create an even base for the top wallpaper.
