These are often referred to as Metric single rolls or bolts and are double the length of a standard American single roll. However, some wallpapers may vary, with wider widths or shorter lengths. Wallpapers are printed in batches, and it’s essential to have rolls from the same batch to ensure an exact colour match. The batch number is typically printed near the pattern number on the wallpaper label. This applies to all wallpapers, including plain white ones, as shades can vary slightly between batches.
Modern wallpaper manufacturing has introduced new technologies, such as the use of polyester fibres in paper pulp. This means these wallpapers don’t expand when wet and don’t need to soak before hanging. The adhesive can be applied directly to the wall, making the process quicker and easier—ideal for beginners.
While you can still apply paste to the wallpaper in the traditional way, soaking is not necessary. Another advantage is that 'paste the wall' wallpapers are easier to remove when it’s time for a change.
We always recommend using lining paper to create a smooth base for wallpaper and to hide minor wall imperfections. This is especially useful for beginners.
